This very fine and rare pair of bronze nudes, male and female, were sculpted by Attilio Piccirilli and cast by the Roman Bronze Works. The sculptor was one of a large family of master stone carvers who worked in Italy and England before settling in America in the 1880s, thereafter carving sculptures in marble for America’s foremost sculptors such as August Saint Gaudens and Daniel Chester French. Attilio's best known public sculpture is the Maine Memorial (1901-1913) located at the edge of Central Park in New York City. He also sculpted an important bas relief for Rockefeller Center in the 1930s and created many other important monuments and figural pieces for public institutions and private clients nationwide.
