This very rare, highly-accompllished sculpture was produced by the renowned Rako ceramic works in the Bohemian town of Rakovnik, which flowered especially brightly in the period between world wars when Czechoslovakia was free of foreign domination. The formality and refinement of the figure's face shows the influence of ancient Greek sculpture, but the sensuality of her torso and the gorgeous glaze is entirely modern.
