Standing Steelworker

Although this strong and noble depiction of a skilled worker dates to the post World War II era, it has the feeling of sculptures glorifying the working man from the 1930s. Its patina -- a charcoal grey with tinges of chalky white -- is particularly handsome, and the contrast between the worker's nude back and heavy mittens is striking. Also of interest is the text in German at the base of the sculpture, executed in a handsome typeface: "Vereinigte Osterr. Eisenu Stahlwerke Linz-Donau"
