Shepherd and Nymph

This bucolic woodland scene is one of the most charming paintings that Zeigler produced over a career that focused largely on mural painting, often in church settings. Zeigler was fascinated with the slender, nymph-like female nude, and painted it many times. Here, however, he has paired his nymph with a male shepherd figure, all in a lovely, light-dappled forest glen that suggests turn-of-the-century American Impressionism.
