Sonnica La Courtisane (Three Nude Women with Classical Statue)

A color etching signed in pencil for the novel Byblis by Vincente Blasco-Ibanez in 1924, this piece exhibits the stylized, moderne style we call Art Deco which was taking hold in France. Depicting three nude women in various stages of sleep and swoon in a shadowy foreground, the piece puts its spotlight on a classical statue of a nude male in the background. This gorgeous print makes use of a wide range of color: deep blacks, rich grays and gray-rose.
