![]() | Mother and Child Sculpted by Charles Wheeler, one of Great Britain's greatest early- to mid-20th century sculptors, this Mother and Child is a very fine example of Art Deco sculpture influenced by Greek and Etruscan sources. Wheeler was highly successful in obtaining commissions for public monuments and sculpture for building facades in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. He was responsible for the great bronze doors and a myriad of other sculptures for the Bank of England headquarters in London, as well as the western fountain populated by mermen and dolphins in Trafalgar Square.
