![]() | Riveter This iconic image of a Depression-era riveter high atop an Art Deco skyscraper was painted by Vincent Maragliotti, one of the most prolific muralists of his day. No doubt created in preparation for a larger wall mural, this painting is signed and dated 1939, just as the demand for war materials ended most major construction across the nation. Maragliotti emigrated to America in 1905, and within a decade he was being commissioned to paint murals in theaters, hotels, private homes and office buildings, including the Hippodrome in Baltimore and the New York Stock Exchange (1914), Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York and the Marland Mansion in Oklahoma (1925), and the Gulf Oil Building in Houston (1927-29). Maragliotti also painted several ambitious murals at the State Capitol and William Penn Memorial Museum in Pennsylvania, and managed the care and restoration of the paintings and sculpture at the Capitol for decades.
