American Numismatic Society Centennial Medal
An especially large and impressive medal, sculpted in 1958 by one of the leading women medalists in the nation for America's most prestigious society which worked to promote good design and public support of coins and medals. One side shows a male nude discovering the natural equivalent of the dies used in striking coins: a fossil and its perfect negative in a piece of stone. The other side shows a colossal pegasus flying above two half-nude men working anvils -- the basis for modern medal-making. The medal was commissioned by the American Numismatic Society to commemorate its centennial.
