Robert Lohman was one of the Midwest's finest and most prolific artists, creating sculptures, paintings, and ceramic works that are increasingly collected today. He worked with renowned sculptor Carl Milles in the 1940s, and at the end of the decade became the Director of Fine Arts for the Cranbrook Academy in suburban Detroit. This remarkable sculpture is from his later years, and is carved from a large block of mahogany. It depicts a nude male figure on one side, and -- upside down! -- a nude female figure on the other.
