An exquisite embodiment of classical beauty and placidity, this porcelain sculpture dates from 1926, the year that Hilda Lascari won a gold medal from the National Academy of Design in New York. Lascari, born Kristina Gustafson in Sweden, came to America in 1916, and proceeded to win prizes at the Academy and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in the 1920s and 1930s. She married Salvatore Lascari, a mural painter who was equally accomplished. This piece features a beautiful translucent glaze with a pattern of fine crackling; it is signed and dated 1926.
