Born in Lithuania and educated in Russia, Lovet-Lorski brought the refined, attenuated figural art of France to America by the age of 26. His lithographs featuring tall, hyper-slender female and male figures constitute his best-known creations, but he produced many fine sculptures, paintings and drawings over his long career as well. This elegant depiction of "Dance" in pencil, crayon and watercolor appears to emerge from the hotbed of early Art Deco in the 1920s, but it is signed and dated 1944.
