Beautifully sculpted and finished in gold to suggest a classic Renaissance portrait in bas relief, this lovely rondel was created by Edward Berge, a popular, early 20th century artist. Berge created many sculptures in bronze that featured children at play for placement in the fountains and gardens of the wealthy. He first achieved fame for his work at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915, and worked out of his studio in Baltimore until he died less than a decade later, still at his prime.
