Two years before the 1964 World's Fair in New York showcased the last gasp of allegorical sculpture and art in America, this medal was created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of First National City Bank. Akin to other scenes created by artists in the heyday of the Art Deco period, the obverse depicts a nude male figure with outstretched arms, embracing a series of other figures representing work, literature, and wisdom, with an ocean liner sailing on the sea behind. The reverse makes these ideals explicit: "Family, Culture, Commerce, Transportation, Industry and Agriculture."
