This complex, richly-textured bronze medallion depicts the founders of Rome -- Romulus and Remus -- on one side, and the founder of Christian Rome -- Constantine -- on the other, all sculpted by Leo Lentelli in 1960. This medal was the 61st issued by the Society of Medalists, and is finished in a black, lustrous patina. Lentelli designed this piece only two years before his death, after a long, illustrious career that included work at Rockefeller Center and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, the San Francisco Public Library, and the Panama-Pacific Exposition.
